Famous Celebrity Engagement Rings

There are so many famous celebrity engagement rings and we wouldn’t be able to list them all. Here is a list of some of the more notable examples. Feel free to add more famous celebrity engagement rings in the comments below.

Princess Diana and Kate Middleton

Okay, they’re not celebrities in the “Kardashian” sense of the word, but both Diana and Kate are instantly recognizable on TV or in pictures, such is the world’s obsession with the British monarchy.

When Prince Charles proposed to Lady Diana Spencer, he did so with a ring showcasing a 12ct oval blue sapphire, surrounded by 14 diamonds. Store bought, rather than custom made, the original £28,000 ($40,000) purchase price is incredibly inexpensive by today’s celebrity standards, but the legacy of Diana – and the fact that the ring is now on the finger of Kate Middleton, her daughter-in-law – means it’s value is now in excess of £200,000 ($280,000).

Amal Alamuddin

As a lawyer and human rights activist, it’s probably only right that the future Mrs George Clooney would insist on an ethically-sourced diamond for her engagement ring.

Sporting a 7ct emerald cut diamond, the ring was impressive enough to turn even the most cynical head, but it seems that bigger might not always be better. At the end of 2015 Alamuddin announced that the ring was too big for practical purposes when she was working at her day job, and so it was decided that the ring would stay locked away for all but important occasions. In its place she now wears a platinum band alongside her wedding ring.

Kim Kardashian

Of course you can’t have any topic that involves celebrities without mentioning the “celebityest” of them all. When Kanye West asked Kardashian if he could be her third husband, he asked whilst holding a 15 carat cushion cut diamond. The center stone is also set on top of a ring of other cut diamonds. Designed by West himself the confirmed $1.6m cost was, at the time, the most expensive engagement ring in the world, although it has since been surpassed (see below).

If 15 carats sounds like a lot, it is, but compare it to the 20 carats in the engagement ring Kardashian was given by second husband Chris Humphries, and it seems no stone will be left uncut to keep up with anybody!

Mariah Carey

We know that you’re wondering which ring passed Kim Kardashian’s for the title of most expensive ever, and here it is.

Given that even diamonds at 2 carats can easily bring oohs and aahs from those who view them, one can only imaging the reaction a 35 carat emerald cut diamond would get. Valued at $7.5m, the ring was designed by close Carey friend, Wilfredo Rosado and presented to Carey by then boyfriend James Packer who, it must be said, is lucky enough to have enough billions in the bank to afford such a creation.

Eva Longoria

There is a definite celebrity trend when it comes to engagement rings, that shows bigger isn’t always the way. When Longoria became engaged to Jose Baston, he chose a beautiful ruby as the center stone with pavé diamonds creating a spectacular halo.

In a throwback to a time when Richard Burton was showering Liz Taylor with gems, Baston also threw in a pair of matching ruby and diamond earrings to complete a set.

Lady Gaga

In defense of then boyfriend Taylor Kinney, if you’re going to propose on Valentine’s, you need to know that what you’re proposing with is going to get the job done.
